The Berkeley-Tsinghua Joint Research Center on Energy and Climate Change (BTJRC) is co-led by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab), and Tsinghua University. The BTRJC is supported by a Steering Committee comprised of senior researchers and faculties from the three partner institutions: Berkeley Lab, Tsinghua University, and the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley).

Jiang Lin, BERkeley Lab

Dr. Jiang Lin is the Nat Simons Presidential Chair in China Energy Policy, and a Staff Scientist with Berkeley Lab's China Energy Group, where his research is focused on energy and climate policy issues in China. He has a PhD in Demography from UC Berkeley, and an MS in Operations Research and BS from the Department of Cybernetics Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China. From 2007-2013, Dr. Lin was the Director of the Energy Foundation's China Sustainable Energy Program and Senior Vice President for Strategy and Analysis (2014-2016).

Yao Qiang, Tsinghua University

Yao Qiang is the Yangzi Distinguished Professor in the department of Thermal Engineering at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, where he is also director of the key laboratory of thermal science and power engineering, and deputy director of the Institute for Low Carbon Economy. He also serves as Executive Director of the Low Carbon Energy University Alliance, a joint effort of Tsinghua University, the University of Cambridge, and MIT.

He JianKun, Tsinghua University

Professor Jiankun is the professor and the director of Low Carbon Economy Lab of Tsinghua University, and the deputy director of National Expert Committee on Climate Change. He is also the former Executive Vice President of the University of Tsinghua and former Dean of the School of Economics and Management.


Teng Fei, Tsinghua University

Teng Fei is an associate professor in the Institute of Energy, Environment, and Economy at Tsinghua University, and the deputy director of the Berkeley-Tsinghua Joint Research Center on Energy and Climate Change. He received his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Tsinghua University in 1998, and his MSc and PhD in Management Science in the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University in 2003. 


Nan Zhou, Berkeley Lab

Nan Zhou is a Staff Scientist, Department Head of the International Energy Analysis Department, and Group Leader of the China Energy Group at Berkeley Lab. She has also served as Director position for the U.S.-China Clean Energy Center-Building Energy Efficiency (CERC-BEE) since October 2012, having previously served as Deputy Director since 2010.  Dr. Zhou has an architecture degree from Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, a Masters in Architecture from Kyushu University in Japan, and a PhD in Engineering from Kyushu Sangyo University, Japan.  


Paul Wright, UC Berkeley

Professor Paul K. Wright is the Director of the Berkeley Energy and Climate Institute (BECI) and a co-director of the Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC) at UC Berkeley. He joined the faculty of the Mechanical Engineering Department in 1992, and he holds the A. Martin Berlin Professorship. From 2007 to 2013 he was the Director of the Center for Information Technology for Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS).
